Lying…
A simple “harmless” thing like telling your kids that Santa is bringing them their toys. Parents say it’s all for fun. It’s “magical” and does them no harm. And, mostly they do this FOR the kids…for THEIR pleasure…for the kids…
Well, I currently have 4 kids under 9…and none of the 4 believe in Santa and all 4 had a tremendously fun and awesome Christmas. So, telling your kids that Santa is real isn’t REALLY for them, is it?
Telling kids Santa’s real is for the parents…it’s for our enjoyment so we can see the kids’ expressions and hear the cute things they say about Santa coming…so we can see their excitement…it’s for our enjoyment…and to empower us…to enable us to manipulate the child to get them to do what we want basically to give us more enjoyment…
“Little Billy! You’d better not do that! Santa’s watching, you know!”
“Little Sally! If you don’t stop that right now Santa might not come!”
Break that down and what it’s really saying is, “Child! You’re behaving in a way that I find irritating, and rather than really get involved and find out what’s ailin’ ya, I will now lie to you to manipulate you into stopping this irritating stimulus!”
It’s all about us being able to manipulate someone smaller, weaker, and more ignorant than us…by lying to them…to get them to behave in a way that’s pleasing to us…
THEN when our kids get a little older and start lying or focusing on pleasing themselves at another’s expense…we wonder, “Why?” And, Christians resort to blaming the “sinful nature” and are actually bewildered when they ask, “Well then why do all kids misbehave? You don’t have to teach them to!”
“Whatever you sow…that you also shall reap”…
Doesn’t matter if you say it’s all “for fun”…it’s not really. And, kids aren’t empty heads who “forget” that the person they trusted most in the world lied to them…And, the thing is it’s not like the “lie” of Santa is a once n’ done little thing…you say this lie over and over every time you tell your kid Santa’s coming or especially when you remind them about Santa SO THAT they will do what you want them to do…
It matters…
