I've seen several posts this week equating the abortion clinic shooter with the recent ISIS-claimed acts.
As a Christian...I say they cannot be compared because anyone calling themselves "Christian" cannot commit an act of violence against another human and say it's in the name of Jesus.
But that's just my opinion, right?
So, to answer the question, "Can a Christian be a terrorist and are Islamic terrorists just the "extremists"?" I did some searches on online searchable "holy books" for both religions...

"Can a person justify harming another human being based on the following teachings?"
Philippians 2:3
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves
Matthew 5:43-48
(Jesus said this regarding things from the Old Testament...)
“You have heard that it was said, ‘you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Matthew 5:39
I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

Luke 10:27

Ephesians 4:32

who are you who judge your neighbor?
Matthew 23:11
the greatest among you shall be your servant.
Luke 22:26
But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.
Matt 7:12
In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Matthew 25:45
‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
1 Thess. 5
appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, 13 and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.
14 We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
15 See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. 16 Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
(No instruction is found for followers of Jesus to kill, hurt, or harm anyone.)

BASED ON THE CHRISTIAN NEW TESTAMENT
When anyone commits violence against another...and claims he's done it for Jesus...he has, in fact, not done it for Jesus...and I would tell that person so and would point to all those verses and say, "Sorry...you cannot say you did that in the name of Jesus." There can be no such thing as a "Christian" terrorist...only a confused terrorist who is trying to justify what he's doing by claiming some divine mission.
BASED ON THE QUR'AN
When a man kills and claims he's done it for Allah...I wouldn't be able to point to their holy book and tell them what they've done is against their religion because Allah commands it of all his followers...not just the extremists..."I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them" and "Unless ye go forth (to fight), He (Allah) will punish you with a grievous penalty."
